THERE WERE NO HOMELESS PEOPLE IN ANCIENT ROME

There were no homeless people in the city of ancient Rome.

What would you have done, if you were an average citizen in the city of ancient Rome and one of those crazy Christians came up to you in the street and said: 

‟

Your dear leader, Emperor Caligula, kills five hundred (500—roman numeral: D) people a day. Don't scoff, I'm serious. He personally murders 500 people a day. He has the Praetorian Guards quietly round them up every night and then all morning long the guards bring them into his secret chambers one-by-one and he slays them for his own amusement. Haven't you noticed the homeless people you used to see in the forum or the emporia have been disappearing?

As you stand there, slack-jawed and slightly alarmed, this crazy tin-foil (yes, they had tin foil in ancient Rome) nut continues raving:

Some leader, eh, your dear Emperor? Usually, he slices their thoats open. Other times, he cleaves them in the belly with a sword. Sometimes, he strangles them to death with his bare hands. If he gets thirsty during this ordeal, he gets down on the floor and laps up blood like a dog! He has even been known to bite a chunk of raw flesh off one of these poor souls if he's hungry. He's a psycopath, but everyone is too afraid of him to do anything about it and the Praetorians go along with it while they practically rule the empire by themselves.

What would you have done? How would you have reacted after this guy had shocked you with his spiel? You would have told yourself that the man who believes these crazy conspiracy theories was in fact the insane one and you would smile satisfactorily when the police came to take the dangerous nut away.

Now I tell you, ‟If you don't think such a thing could happen here, today, in the United States of America, then I have just one word for you:
