Qi-Gong is an ancient, powerful, and long-revered system of healing and energy medicine from China. It's the art and science of utilizing breathing methods, gentle movement, and meditation to clean, fortify, and circulate the life energy qi (pronounced chee).
What is Tai Chi?
Tai Chi is a form of mind body exercise within Qi Gong which uses a combination of techniques to promote an introspective and meditative approach to physical and mental fitness. Like all forms of mind body exercise, Tai Chi uses a combination of breathing patterns along with a mindful focus and pre-choreographed movements with specific intended outcomes.
In modern times, Tai Chi has become a specific type of meditative movement that is used for health and wellness and, as such, is comparable to yoga. While yoga focuses on holding postures for extended periods of time and achieving a peaceful state of mind, Tai Chi is more rhythmic in its movement, a sort of slow and fluid dance-like exercise that and aims to calm the mind and remove stress.
What are the differences between Tai Chi & Qi Gong?
Qi Gong is a spiritual practice with roots in Chinese philosophy, meditation, medicine and martial arts. It focuses on healing and the treatment of disease as well as meditation.
Tai Chi is a practice of exercise within the Qi Gong tradition. It employs fluid, slow-motion movements to calm the mind and reduce stress.
The general benefits of practicing Qi Gong is that the gentle rhythmic movements help to reduce stress, build stamina, increase vitality and build up the immune system to stay at optimum levels as much as possible. Most people who have taken up this art form attest to the fact that they have gained a certain level of vitality and new lease in life.
